Constança is an interdisciplinary artist, choreographer, dancer, and handpoke tattooist born in Lisbon and currently based in London. She graduated from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Contemporary Dance in 2020, where her passion for visual arts and movement led her to develop a methodology that unites these mediums. By weaving her drawing and movement practices with explorations of earthen and organic materials, Constança creates deeply personal and tactile works that reflect her complex relationship with nature and self.
Her artistic process begins with direct interaction with the natural world, where she collects materials such as handmade charcoal, foraged plants, stones, and clay. These elements form the foundation of her drawings and sculptures, serving as both tools and collaborators. Whether pressing plants into paper to capture their imprint or using charcoal to mark her own body in a foetal position, Constança’s work blurs the line between the human and natural realms.
The body is central to her practice, not only as a subject but as a medium of creation. Through her dance background, Constança uses movement to explore the dynamic relationship between perception and making, often layering physical gestures into her work. Her drawings, sculptures, and tattoos reflect a harmonious dialogue between observation, memory, and imagination.
In her handpoke tattoo practice, she extends this philosophy, creating natural stencils with organic forms. Her tattoos are a testament to the healing power of marking one’s body with intention, offering her clients an embodied connection to her artistic values. This ethos also carries into her collaborative projects, such as Sis Project with Boryana Petkova, which connects women across the globe through the shared gesture of a handpoked line.
Constança’s work is deeply rooted in themes of belonging, memory, and transformation. By using her hands as a bridge between her body, nature, and the creative process, she invites her audience to reflect on their own connections to the natural world and the stories embedded within it.
